The company HyCentA Research GmbH – Hydrogen Center Austria Research GmbH is engaged in basic research and application research and cover systemic aspects of hydrogen as well, and have fully access to academic synergies in the form of approx. 160 scientists (organized in various institutes at the Technical University Graz) carrying out their research in sectors such as production, storage, and deployment in the areas mobility, industry, households, and energy- and transport systems. Based on the companys HyCentA Research GmbH – Hydrogen Center Austria Research GmbH experience, its status and reputation, and its strategy and plans, it will serve as exclusive hydrogen hub in Austria by executing its vision the company HyCentA Research GmbH – Hydrogen Center Austria Research GmbH drive the sustainable hydrogen society which should lead to innovation, co-operations, visibility, values and solutions.
The company HyCentA Research GmbH – Hydrogen Center Austria Research GmbH offers the following activities (“the four disciplines”) to the market:
- Research and Development – covering a) electrolysers (such as PEM, AEM, AEL, SOEC), hydrogen production and infrastructure (design and testing the cell, stack, system and overall facilities, layout and testing of GH2 compressor systems, and purification of hydrogen up to 8.0), b) hydrogen storage and distribution systems (GH2 layout and testing of GH2 storage systems and hydride storage systems and LH2 systems, know-how of H2 distribution by bundles, trailer, ships and pipelines), c) fuel cells in mobility and stationary power systems (design and testing stacks BoP, fuel cell systems and control strategies, development of powertrains and vehicles, such as passenger cars, vans, busses, trucks and special vehicles), and d) measurement techniques and test systems (mass measurement techniques and gas quality measurement 6.0 and higher, customer specific test systems, e. g. fuel cells).
- Simulation – covering a) hydrolysis (refueling station), b) CAD design and FEM simulation (Stacks, components, systems), c) multi-phase flow simulation (stack layout, hydrogen storage system, injector/ejector), d) real time fuel cell system simulation and control design (automotive PEM system), e) vehicle simulation (passenger cars, busses, trucks, trains, snowmobiles), f) DOE and automated calibration.
- Testing – covering a) highly dynamic fuel cell system test up to 160 Kw (HiL fuel cell-systems tests, BoP components, climate chamber; fully automated test cycles and DoE ability; certification tests), b) high pressure test stand up to 1000 bar (testing of hydrogen storage systems, high pressure components; durability testing and certification tests; climate chamber, cold fill, filling protocol parameter), c) H2-refuelling for 350 and 700 bar cold fill (refueling of passenger cars, busses, and trucks), d) 2 test cells for component and subsystem testing (modern measurement equipment; cathode and anode subsystems, BoP components, fuels cells up to 20 kw), e) hydrogen quality laboratory )gas quality laboratory, sampling equipment and analysis devices)
- Teaching and Publication – covering a) lectures at Technical University Graz (advanced thermodynamics, hydrogen in energy and vehicle technology, innovative propulsion systems, e-mobility, energy storage systems), b) mentoring bachelor, master and PhD thesis, c) consulting and conferences and networking.
