Smart glasses using eye hyper-tracking technology for real-time visualisation in industrial applications

The company Viewpointsystem has developed the product VPS 19 smart glasses with integrated eye tracking. They are a cost-efficient aid for very precise remote support and live consulting by experts or efficient training and video documentation. In the near term, the VPS 19 will also be available with mixed reality features and intuitive eye gesture interaction. The VPS 19 glasses are extremely lightweight and can be worn for hours. They work in nearly all lighting conditions. While other systems require the wearer to constantly shift their eyes, jumping back and forth between digital information and real life, the VPS 19 will, in the near future, display info in the line of sight where it can easily be processed. It has a battery runtime of 8 hours plus and allows a non-stop operation during battery swap.

The two main use-cases of the VPS 19 are:

Bi-directional communication/remote support The wearer can connect live with an unlimited number of offsite experts to help him or her during emergencies such as machine-stops, or general machine maintenance, quality control or training & education. The onsite technician can provide a “we see what you see”-view to the computer screens of the remote service experts. During streaming, the experts can not only give precise verbal repair instructions, based on the gaze point of the wearer, but also send annotations or 2D-drawings which are displayed either on the mixed reality click-on or on the smart unit. Thus, manufacturers can shorten downtimes, improve know-how transfer and reduce their CO2 footprint and costs by avoiding unnecessary travels. The return of investment is short-term. No further infrastructure is required.

Barcode/QR Scanning This unique feature makes barcode scanning processes in logistics and retail faster and much more effective: using the “Barcode Scan” app, the wearer selects the barcode with his eyes. This feature also works regardless of whether the barcode is further away or at an angle to the wearer. The barcode information is shown on the display. The user confirms the information through eye gestures. The system is also able to scan all barcodes that are in the field of view of the wearer at the same time within seconds. The right barcode is selected automatically and confirmed by the wearer’s eye movements.
