With the O2k as a state-of-the-art laboratory instrument, researchers measure respiration in living cells and mitochondrial preparations from a variety of tissues and blood cells. Multiple titrations can be performed for the addition of substrate combinations, inhibitors and uncouplers to uncover mitochondrial functions. The DatLab software offers a large library of standardized protocols for detailed analysis of mitochondrial pathways, aerobic capacity, and respiratory control. The flexibility of the O2k is based on a unique modular concept. The small-volume chamber module supports respiratory measurements with low numbers of cells and small amounts of biological sample. Fluorometry is combined with respirometric monitoring of oxygen consumption and control of oxygen levels from hyperoxia, normoxia and hypoxia, to anoxic conditions that cannot be obtained in other instruments.
