Electric Planet Motor – An Innovative Electric Drive

Heinz Gödl

TU Wien

About

Instead of a single rotor, four mechanically linked rotors are used: The electric planet motor integrates the drive and gear unit, at the same time being space-saving, failure-resistant and energy-efficient. The electric planet motor is especially suited for electric vehicles, machine tools as well as for lifting equipment and in production technology, for all operations where safety and high performance are critical.

  • Compact power train based on integration of motor and gear unit
  • Higher power density: up to +50% at same volume
  • Four rotors offer double performance compared to conventional drives with the same rotational cross-sectional area
  • Failure safety due to elimination of sensors
  • Enhanced efficiency at lower production cost
  • Significantly higher load capacity at given form and material quality of gearing
  • Extremely flat design possible
  • Manufacturing with a high degree of automatization possible

A prototype is available. TU Wien is looking for companies in Automotive, Electric Vehicles, Aerospace, Construction Machinery, Lifting Equipment, Machine Tools and Production Machines, Drum Drives and Robotics, that are interested in R&D cooperation and license agreements.
